I know that Nokia, HP, US Postal Services, Athens 2004 Olimpic Games, Globo.com and Usiminas where along those organizations that uses Vignette Content Management and Portal Solutions. So what about the ins and outs of the application.

Thanks in advance.

As far as client list - you won't get much out of them except for the success stories on their site. And client lists from implementations from VAP/VARs are going to be hard to come by as well - some are successful and some cost an arm and a leg.

We're in the middle of one and two have since gone horribly wrong because we got sketchy info from Vignette so the implementation was set up terribly wrong. Their tech support isn't great except when they're going to miss out on the sale, then they come in with all guns blazing and make you look like a fool for proposing their system is difficult to use.

It's slow, allows only 10 attributes in their database (more if you hook up to a 3rd party db lik Oracle), authoring console is crap unless you upgrade and are on the Portal. Need I go on?

Meanwhile - I hear Interwoven and Macromedia have found a solution which allows content authors to use a robust version control and quickly author content. Gee, what a nice solution...

How about something that's easy to implement and nicely documented without spending $500K?

Johnny, RTFM.

The 10 attributes limit that you bitched about are out of the box attributes from the vignette system database for your quick proof-of-concepts. They are not meant for *actual* deployments. All attributes that you use should be coming out of your own database, for your own customization.

Read the manual already, before being so quick to judge.

I bet you haven't done any coding either...

Thomas

<P>Ok, if you are talking about Flex I'm glad you made cause it's in the center of RIA's revolution those days! I'm using Vignette v.6 with TCL programming that sucks!!! Very hard to implement applications fast when you want!!! I've heard that v.7 is Java-based so I'm expecting the upgrade to see what happens. In the mean time...</P>
<P>Thanks alot&nbsp;for your reply!</P>

I wouldn't hold your breath regarding v7. The documentation is still just as crap. Admittedly it is java but that's only so much help. Vignette is basically Consulting-ware, that's how they make all their money.

Actually, if you read their earnings statements you'll see they make most of their money on license revenue, not from services.  Yes, you need an experienced consultant to implement a large enterprise project for pretty much any vendor from what I've noticed.  Given the highly complex nature of this type of solution offering, I'm not sure why you would be so surprised by that reality.  This isn't something cut-and-dry like Word or Photoshop.  Not every business works the same way or approaches their content the same way.  Everyone wants it THEIR way.  There really is no "standard" for this sort of thing.
