Historically Enonic CMS is well known as a market leader for corporate webs, government portals, extranets and intranets in the mid market. The investment done in version 4.4 positions Enonic CMS as a leader in additional areas:

Digital signage for TV
Enonic’s multi-channel capabilities make digital signage a swift operation. You can easily reuse all your published content including images, and integrate digital signage solutions from leading vendors like Scala or Cisco. 

Mobile
Enonic launched the first mobile website in 2001. Since then, several customers have created mobile sites to deliver parts of their websites to the users. CMS 4.4 extends the mobile capabilities with a mobile detection function. This new feature and the new image processor make it possible to deliver websites which support both mobile and desktop at record speeds.

Communities
The new version is packed with community functionality, like the extended user profile, forums, comments to all types of content, RSS producers and consumers, content sharing to social media applications and user. All functionality is mobile-enabled.

Admin interface improvements

The admin interface is generally improved for all types of users. You will find the biggest improvements with the version control and content lifecycle process. This includes direct links to content from e-mails generated in the approval process.

In addition we have developed a new link system for the rich formatting editor.  Broken native links are no longer displayed to end users, and you have an overview of content linking to a specific text.

Another innovation is the image processor. For the rich formatting editor you can upload once and insert images in both specific and relative sizes in a few clicks. The relative sizes are automatically scaled to different devices making it possible for a full site to be tailored to a mobile format. Relative sizes includes thumbnail, square, wide, list and full.

Portal improvements and features

Both designers and developers have embraced the new image processor that supports template specific scaling, cropping and support for image effects. You can define a skin to control effects and scaling throughout the site and add global effects like rounded corners and grey scale.

CMS 4.4 includes two key improvements to enhance security. The first is the system-generated ticket system that prevents XSS (Cross Site Scripting), and the other is built-in support for CAPTCHA to prevent abuse from robots.

Localization for template text is improved and easy to manage. A new function is available for templates to localize phrases.

Enhanced user management

Pluggable user stores are one of the major new features. Previously Enonic supported LDAP and Active Directory (AD), thus requiring an LDAP directory in order to run. CMS 4.4 supports any type of authentication from LDAP and AD to proprietary database tables, and files systems. Groups and user relations to groups are also synchronized to simplify administration. Multiple local user stores can be configured.

To top if off, we have developed a standard set of field names like address, e-mail, and date of birth. This enables you to access user information across the different user stores to build general functionality.

Sample design and modules

The release includes a comprehensive library of example templates for design implementation, navigation, and functionality. The example templates includes several a skins, both for corporate webs and intranets. The skins can be tuned to implement your corporate profile quick and easy. Mobile support is out-of-the-box.
