MDPro is an innovative open source content management system (CMS) written in PHP. It supports the MySQL and Oracle databases as well as most PostNuke .72x modules, blocks and themes along with its own. It features the popular and fairly easy to learn HTML based AutoTheme as a built-in engine with many features designed specifically for MDP, including many search engine friendly features. This makes it easier for the beginner to design their own custom themes and have their MDP sites indexed by search engines without adding any hacks.
The MAXdev developers continually refine and enhance the functionality as well as the code and extend this philosophy to their support of additional modules in the areas of eCommerce, ePlanning, eLearning and others. The goal is to make MDP as easy to use as possible without sacrificing features and functionality.
This process of continual refinement extends throughout the program. The terminology and wording used in the various modules, graphics and user documentation are all refined on an ongoing basis. We have some of the best user documentation you will find in any CMS, possibly the very best, written so even beginners can understand how to use MDPro right away. Installation is easy with the graphical semi-automated installer.
One of the things that makes MDPro different from other CMS products is that our developers use it in their work at universities and libraries and other institutions. They have a vested interest in the quality and functionality of MDP and this is part of the driving force to refine it.
The next major version, MDLite, projected for release in early 2006, will consist of a core product with only the essentials included and all other modules being optional add-ons. This will enable all admins, beginners and advanced, to tailor their MDPro sites to their own needs and preferences without having to delete any unwanted options. All future versions will follow this philosophy of minimalism even as our developers write new enhanced modules to replace the current ones, whether core modules or destined to become add-on modules. Also, the functionality of several modules has been consolidated into a single module, making for an easier and simpler to use product.
